22 Jan 10 Mt Shasta from I-5 driving south to Nevada. (This photo has nothing to do with the Island--we're taking a quick round-robin from the Island to our newly-bought house in Nevada.)

05 Feb 10 The north shore of the Island looking northeast.

05 Feb 10 River otter tracks on the Island beach.

06 Feb 10 A view from the cabin porch looking southeast at 7 a.m.

12 Feb 10 From the north bluff of the Island looking east.

12 Feb 10 Lori in the cabin kitchen. We often wore hats and warm clothes inside the cabin in the cool months of winter.

15 Feb 10 These cormorant nests were used in the summer of 2008. They didn’t nest here in 2009. (Maybe they’ll return to this same location in a future year.) These nests were on the south bluff about 150’ above the water--the super strong winds of winter tore them from the bluff some time after we took this photo.

17 Feb 10 Longtail ducks (formerly named oldsquaw ducks) south of the Island.

17 Feb 10 Great blue heron at the John Wayne Marina entrance.

17 Feb 10 Great blue heron at the John Wayne Marina entrance.

18 Feb 10 The Island looking southeast to the Olympic mountains. The colder winter months brought cold, crisp, clear air--indeed we used a lot of the 'tons' of wood we chopped for heating the cabin.

21 Feb 10 Bufflehead in the Island harbor.

23 Feb 10 The old water tower and deer on the Island.

22 Feb 10 During the winter months when we were free to access the beaches, we did many cleanups around the Island. Here’s Lori with a huge tire on Violet Spit--we didn’t attempt to move it!

25 Feb 10 These brants were southwest of the Island.

03 Mar 10 Kanem Spit north shore looking northeast.

03 Mar 10 Kanem Spit south shore looking east.

09 Mar 10 In the winter we used the fireplace a lot--it was our only source of heat in the cabin.

25 Feb 10 Mallards in the Island harbor.

15 Mar 10 Gulls are ingenious and find a way to perch anywhere.

18 Mar 10 Sea Bird in the harbor. We loved using this boat.

20 Mar 10 Mature and immature eagles near the center of the Island.

20 Mar 10 Gulls landing in the cabin yard.

20 Mar 10 Gull flying over the yard.

20 Mar 10 Gull over the yard.

20 Mar 10 Gulls over the yard.

20 Mar 10 Kanem Spit looking southwest to the Olympics from the bluff.

21 Mar 10 Looking east from the cabin.

22 Mar 10 We boated into Sequim and drove over to La Push on the west coast of Washington. We stayed an hour and headed back.

22 Mar 10 Peter with an old boat at the La Push harbor.

22 Mar 10 Lori sitting in a 13-foot diameter tree near La Push. It was logged in Washington State when it was 1720 years old.
